Senior Scottish minister downplays gay clergy ‘crisis’ in Church of Scotland
A Church of Scotland minister in the Highlands has downplayed the idea of a “crisis” over the gay clergy issue, following the resignation of two of his colleagues.
Reverend David Kellas, the moderator of the presbytery of Lochcarron and Skye, has said Reverend David Macleod and Reverend Rorry MacRae, had left the Kirk “a little out of breath but Noah has not yet walked off the Ark.”
He was addressing reports of a staffing crisis after Reverend Kellas was left as the only minister in the western Highlands.
“We are a little out of breath but Noah has not yet walked off the Ark nor has the shepherd abandoned his sheep in the spooky glen,” he said, speaking to the Press and Journal.
“David Macleod and Roddy MacRae have left us for a church which everyone could see is their natural home,” he continued.
Reverends Macleaod and MacRae of Loccarron, Applecross and Torindon and Glenelg and Kintail parishes respectively, will stand down later this month.
They intend to join the Free Church of Scotland.
