Oxford councillor claims Rupert Everett sought police protection against ‘PinkNews mafia’
A councillor and Oxford academic has alleged that PinkNews has a “mafia”, and that gay actor Rupert Everett needed police protection after he was placed on its “hit list”.
Dr Gasper, who has a D.Phil. in English Literature from Somerville College, Oxford. was standing in the council by-election in Quarry and Risinghurst for the English Democrats, for a vacancy created by Labour councillor Laurence Baxter stepping down over work commitments.
She last year claimed on her blog that a “PinkNews mafia” caused the actor Rupert Everett to seek police protection.
“Pink News is a danger to the public because its readers include a lot of psychopaths whose comments on their [sic] site make it plain that they have violent intentions towards the heterosexual population. They specialise is [sic] stirring up hate-campaigns against innocent individuals who are then subjected to internet lynching tactics. Typical comments include suggestions that anyone they disagree with should be raped, ‘bummed’, gassed, hanged, otherwise killed, dismembered, pushed off cliffs, or have their house burned down. Week after week such messages appear on their [sic] site and nobody does anything about it. They even bombard other homosexuals such as Rupert Everett with hate-mail and death-threats when he says anything against their agenda. He recently had to seek police protection because the Pink News mafia had put him on its hit-list.
” One woman wrote about a Christian who didn’t want same-sex marriage, “I’m going to take your gay-bashing bible and push it down your filthy heterosexual throat and choke you, then dance on your grave.” Another wrote, “I’d like to kill you, keep your body in my basement and do gay stuff to it, then cut you up into little pieces and feed you to my dogs.”” wrote Dr Gasper.
While the blog post was written in November 2013, it was recently brought to the attention of PinkNews.
Concluding, she asks: “What does Pink stand for – perhaps ‘Psychopaths’ Information NetworK’?”
She stood down as UKIP Oxford’s Chairperson in January last year, and recently claimed that her former party is “plagued” with “grotesque” transsexuals.
Dr Gasper last stood for the English Democrats in May’s European Elections, where the party managed to scrape just 0.76% of the vote in the region, winning just 17,771 votes.
PinkNews publisher Benjamin Cohen said: “While some may find Dr Gasper’s allegations amusing, they are incredibly serious. She is alleging that PinkNews has its own mafia, which puts celebrities on its hit list. We have written to Dr Gasper’s solicitors to ask them to provide evidence of her claims. If they do not not we will consider taking legal action against her unjustified allegations.
“This is particularly important as Dr Gasper is an elected representative who sits on the Rishinghurst and Sandhills Parish Council, and I am sure that her local residents would not want their councillor to make such spurious allegations.”
She had previously called for PinkNews readers to be sectioned, called for Grindr to be banned, and claimed Daniel Radcliffe and a “queer mafia” were responsible for “victimising” former Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich into stepping down.
Management for Rupert Everett did not respond to call from PinkNews for comment.
