Fugitive thug who brags he ‘battered the gays’ evades police in Glasgow
A fugitive thug who brags that he “battered the gays” has evaded police in Glasgow.
On Monday, armed police raided a block of flats in Govanhill, Glasgow, in a bid to find 33-year-old Jonathan Kelly.
The convict – who went on the run last month after breaking the terms of his license following release – has previously attacked a man with a machete, committed a string of violent attacks while behind bars, and bragged about his homophobia.
He wrote to group Miscarriages of Justice UK while behind bars: “Every year at Gay Pride, we battered the Gays… There was an awful lot of gay bashing back then that was not just for fun.”
Detective Inspector Ian Hylands told the Daily Record: “Although not considered a danger to the public, we believe that due to circumstances Mr Kelly may pose a risk.
“I would appeal to Mr Kelly to give himself up and contact Police Scotland with a view to handing himself in.”
A police spokesperson added: “Officers received information that a missing man, Jonathan Kelly was seen in the area.
“Officers immediately responded to the location and conducted a search to try and locate him while ensuring there was no danger posed to members of the public.
“Police Scotland can confirm the man is still missing and inquiries are continuing.”
Jonathan Kelly is described as white with short brown hair, 5ft 9in, and of heavy build.
