British man raped at Oktoberfest in Munich
A British man was reportedly raped at an Oktoberfest celebration in Germany.
According to Munich police, the 24-year-old victim was attacked on Sunday while urinating in a secluded bush near a known cruising spot in Theresienwiese, where the annual beer festival is held.
The report states the victim was approached by a man who “made it clear he wanted to have sex with him”.
Police say he was then pinned down by an assailant and raped, before two men fled the scene.
No-one has so far been arrested over the incident, and the perpetrators are yet to be identified, while the identity of the victim – believed to be from Leeds – has not been made public.
A spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told the Standard: “We aware of an incident involving a British national and we are providing consular assistance.”
Police added that crime at the festival was down on previous years, despite the incident, with seven sexual assaults and 659 crimes recorded in the first week
Social Democrat mayor Klaus Wowereit announced that he is to leave office two years early, over an ongoing row regarding the city’s airport.
