You’ll never guess what this pastor will do to his kid if he were gay
A blog post made by a Christian pastor in which he promises to love his children regardless of their sexuality has gone viral.
John Pavlovitz, a father of two, received over ten thousand responses through social media this month, after sharing a post to his blog entitled “If I Have Gay Children: 4 Promises From a Christian Pastor/Parent.”
In the entry, he makes a four-part promise to embrace his children – Noah and Selah – if they come out as gay.
He writes: “If I have gay children, you’ll all know it.
“I won’t pray that God will heal or change or fix them. I will pray for God to protect them; from the ignorance and hatred and violence that the world will throw at them, simply because of who they are.”
“Many of you may be offended by all of this,” he adds, “I fully realize.
“… but with as much gentleness and understanding as I can muster; I really couldn’t care less. This isn’t about you. This is a whole lot bigger than you.”
He concludes: “If that day should ever come for me — if my children should ever come out to me — this is the Dad I hope I’ll be to them.”
In a just a few days, the post received almost 2,000 comments, both positive and negative, and was featured on the Huffington Post.
One reader wrote: “I have a son who is gay, and I have the same kind of love for him that you describe here…. Your children are very blessed to have you as a father.”
However, another responded: “How can a supposed pastor glorify sinful behavior? If my kids thought they were gay I would be doing everything in my power including never ending prayer that my child would stop the sinful behavior.”
John Pavlovitz has led a congregation at North Wake House Church in North Carolina for 18 years.
