US: Most Utahns now realise same-sex marriage wouldn’t affect their families
A poll released today has found that, along with an even spit on the issue of same-sex marriage, a majority of voters in the state of Utah said legalising it wouldn’t affect their families.
The Benenson Strategy Group poll found that 49% of Utahns thought same-sex marriage should be legal, with 48% opposing it.
When asked whether same-sex marriage would affect their families, 69% said it would not.
Despite those figures, and while 94% of married respondents said same-sex marriage would not affect their marriages at all, 5% said they thought it would affect theirs a great deal, or somewhat.
70% of respondents said they had close friends or family who are gay, and 40% said they had become more open in recent years to legalising same-sex marriage.
