Christian Concern: We should stay in the European Court of Human Rights, so Christians can oppose same-sex marriage
Andrea Williams of Christian Concern wants the UK to remain in the European Court of Human Rights – so it can “give Christians more rights” to oppose same-sex marriage.
Prime Minister David Cameron announced plans earlier this week to replace the Act and the European Convention on Human Rights with a British Bill of Rights if re-elected next year, adding “we do not require instruction on this from judges in Strasbourg”.
Surprisingly, despite the number of pro-gay rulings from the court, the Christian Concern charity has called for the UK to remain part of the ECHR.
Spokesperson Andrea Williams told Premier Christian Radio: “What we have seen coming out of Europe is that the European Court actually gives the Christians more rights than we’ve been seeing in our national courts.
“It was a European Court in Strasbourg that recognised… believing in marriage between a man and a woman is something that flows from faith.
“These are things that the British courts have been refusing to recognise now for over a decade.
“It’s actually the Europeans, and the European Court itself, that has been pulling us back the right way.”
She claimed at the time: “Those who want to turn the world on its head have often tried to manipulate the state education system to achieve their ends.
“The ideological propaganda machine of Stonewall continues to gain momentum and the manipulating of the state education system is a key part of their strategy.
“The normal pattern of marriage and family has been under attack for decades now with devastating consequences, especially for children, so news of further attempts are very concerning.
“Children would fare much better if taught more clearly about the normal pattern for raising the next generation.”
