BBC asks public to submit video entries for Eurovision 2015
For the first time since 2008, the BBC has asked the public to submit video auditions to become the UK entry into Euvision 2015.
The BBC said it will consider video submissions, and hopes to find “a brilliant song”, and “a brilliant performer” to represent the UK.
Guy Freeman, who is in charge of the UK’s bid, said they would still work with professional record labels in the search for the entry.
After bearded drag performer Conchita Wurst won the competition this year for Austria with ‘Rise like a Phoenix’, the competition will next year be held in Vienna.
This year the UK finished 17th.
Freeman has warned, however, that despite requesting submissions to become the UK’s entrant, there will not be a return to a public vote to pick the act.
He said a panel of experts “will have the final say on which song and artist will be the UK’s 2015 entry”.
“We’re keen to provide as many routes into the selection process as possible, whilst remaining realistic about the proven amount of experience required by anyone wishing to put themselves forward,” he continued.
The deadline for submissions is 7 November, and the judging panel will review them a week later. It is unknown when the winning act might be announced.
