Las Vegas has launched an ad campaign promoting itself as a venue for same-sex weddings, less than a week after equal marriage became law in Nevada.

Same-sex couples began to marry in Nevada last week, after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal upheld a ruling striking down the state’s marriage ban.

Missing no opportunities, the ‘wedding capital of the world’ has launched its first ad campaign targeted at same-sex couples, who have never before been permitted a Vegas wedding.

The city took out a full-page ad in USA Today to promote itself as a gay wedding venue, with a picture of wedding cakes featuring two men against the famous city backdrop.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said in a statement: “This is an historic day for Las Vegas and the great state of Nevada.

“As the ‘Wedding Capital of the World’ and one of the top destinations for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender visitors, Las Vegas welcomes LGBT couples wishing to legally recognize their relationship.

“There is simply no better destination to host a fabulous wedding followed by a one-of-a-kind honeymoon.”
