Vote here for the PinkNews Award for Positive LGBT Marketing Campaign
Later this month, the second annual PinkNews Awards will take place in the Palace of Westminster, celebrating the contributions of politicians, businesses and community groups towards what has been another historic year for LGBT equality in the UK.
The event, held in the State Rooms at Speaker’s House, will be introduced by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow. Mr Bercow is a well known supporter of LGBT rights and his coat of arms features a rainbow flag together with the pink triangle; both symbols of gay rights, around the words “All Are Equal”.
Presenters of the awards will include Leader of the Opposition Ed Miliband, First Secretary of State and leader of the House of Commons William Hague, Business Secretary Vince Cable and Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls.
While some of the awards are being decided by a panel of expert judges, we are inviting our readers to vote for a number of our awards winners.
This award is about celebrating the positive portrayal of LGBT people in corporate advertising.
Below are the nominations for the advertising campaign of the year.
Stonewall, Paddy Power and Gay Football Supporters’ Network
Leading gay rights charity Stonewall this year sent thousands of rainbow laces to every premiership footballer and professional club in Britain in support of gay players and fans.
The campaign by Stonewall, Paddy Power and the Gay Football Supporters’ Network, is also backed by the Premier League, out German footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger,Arsenal and Man City.
A television ad kicked-off the campaign, starring Arsenal legends Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Olivier Giroud, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta.
Visit Britain ‘Love is Great’ campaign
Visit Britain’s ‘Love is Great’ campaign set out to promote LGBT friendly events across the UK, and featured a marketing campaign with same-sex couples.
The site’s ‘love wall’ features an extensive list of events of different types up and down the country from theatre to sports, pride events to ancient landmarks, with the option to search in various ways, by genre or by location.
Stoli same-sex marriage
This year, as first same-sex marriages in England and Wales which took place on 29 March 2014, Stoli launched a campaign in celebration.
The famed vodka brand created a bespoke Stoli cocktail to mark the special occasion, the first of many special days to come.
As well as same-sex marriage celebration in the UK, Stoli has pledged funds around the world towards same-sex marriage efforts.
Google’s zeitgeist video
Google this year has celebrated the marriage of a same-sex couple in its Zeitgeist video of the most searched terms of 2013.
Featured in a section of the Zeitgeist video titled ‘New Beginnings’, which also featured the birth of Prince George.
The video goes on to celebrate other most-searched items, including exploration of space and the passing of Nelson Mandela and Lou Reed.
