US: Wyoming set to allow same-sex marriages
The US state of Wyoming is set to become the latest state to allow same-sex couples to marry.
The move comes as the state is scheduled to file a notice saying it will not continue to defend a state law defending marriage as specifically between one man and one woman.
Following the formal notice, clerks around the state will be able to immediately issue marriage licences to gay couples.
On top of this, the state will recognise marriages performed between same-sex couples out-of-state.
A judge last week struck down a ban on same-sex marriage in the state of Wyoming.
US District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl ruled on 18 October that the state’s law defining marriage as “a civil contract between a male and a female person” was unconstitutional.
