US: Gay rights group receives $3 million donation
A gay rights group has received a $3 million donation from the estate one of the group’s late founders.
The donation, equivalent to £1.8 million, came from the estate of Dr Henry Messer, who died in Feburary at the age of 86.
Dr Messer’s estate left $1 million (£625,000) to Equality Michigan towards the group’s policy and victim services work. $2 million (£1.3 million) went to the endowment of the organisation.
The Triangle Foundation, which was co-founded by Dr Messer, merged with Michigan Equality to form Equality Michigan, back in 2010.
The late neurosurgeon often fought for gay rights, and also served in the military during World War II.
