England manager Roy Hodgson doesn’t know what LGBT stands for
England football manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that he has no idea what ‘LGBT’ stands for.
The football coach, who had managed the England squad since 2012, was asked by student newspaper The Tab whether football could do more to help LGBT players.
Mr Hodgson was reportedly perplexed at the acronym – which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender – before answering: “It’s not my world.”
“You really are talking to someone who’s quite naive on the subject and who has not got strong opinions on it.
“I don’t have an answer for you.”
He added that he had never encountered a gay player, saying: “I haven’t come across any players who’ve found themselves in that position.
“I haven’t come across any players who would even arouse my suspicion that they would like to come out but are fearful of doing so.
“It would be unrealistic, I guess, in football to not accept that there are a number of people who are… err… gay because it covers every other walk of life.”
“Football no doubt has its share.”
