Scotland: Glasgow SNP deputy leader suspended after reports of homophobia
The deputy leader of the SNP group on Scotland’s largest council has been suspended after charges of homophobia.
According to the Evening Times, Councillor Billy McAllister was charged with a “homophobic breach of peace.”
He is alleged to have been involved in an assault incident on Maryhill Road in Glasgow on August 26, along with another 47-year-old not affiliated with the SNP.
A Glasgow SNP spokesman said: “Councillor McAllister has been suspended from the SNP group and as a member of the SNP until such times as due legal process has been completed.”
A police spokeswoman said: “I can confirm a 47-year-old man was reported to the procurator fiscal for an alleged assault and a 60-year-old man reported to the procurator fiscal for an alleged homophobic breach of the peace.”
