Last film starring Robin Williams as a gay man might never be released
The last film to star actor Robin Williams – in which he plays a middle-aged man struggling with his sexuality – might not see the light of day.
The actor died by suicide in August this year, just weeks after the film Boulevard was shown to positive reviews at Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
However the drama, which sees Robin Williams play a married man who falls in love with a gay prostitute, has failed to find a distributor to bring it to cinemas.
A source told the Mirror: “It’s really sad but it is looking impossible that Boulevard will ever see the light of day now.
“It has proved to be a struggle for it to find the support it needs to be released.
“The cast have tried, as have the crew. But for many reasons it is looking very unlikely.
“There is one suggestion it isn’t up to scratch and is failing on merit to find anyone to distribute it.”
Before his death, Robin Williams described it as a “a beautiful, sad movie”.
He said: “[It’s] a guy who falls in love with a gay prostitute, basically comes out.
“He’s married, and he has to come out to his wife. It was powerful to do.”
There are three other films starring Williams yet to be released – Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, A Merry Friggin’ Christmas and comedy Absolutely Anything – but Boulevard is his last appearance as a gay character and in a lead role.
