Russell Brand: ‘I wish I was bisexual – I’m tedious with my heterosexuality’
Russell Brand has said he wishes he were bisexual because he finds being heterosexual “tedious.”
The 39-year-old comedian spoke to Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd on his split from Jemima Khan last month.
He said: ”I’m single. Well, you’ve got to go into relationships with the right attitude. All relationships, I’m always positive about them.
”I wish I was bisexual. That’s one of the things about me where I’ve got a very traditional moral code. I’m tedious with my heterosexuality.”
His comments come after he revealed last year he had performed a sex act on a man in a public toilet, and suggested that he only identifies as straight because of the environment he grew up in.
He said: “I [performed a sex act on] a man in a public toilet. I thought, I think of myself as heterosexual but perhaps that’s because of the environment that I grew up in.”
The star also said he was persuaded to go to “gay bars and gyms”, in order to pick up men, for the show RE:Brand, which aired on UK Play.
Steve Drain and Timothy Phelps, two members of the Westboro Baptist Church, known for the ‘God Hates Fags’ campaign, labelled Brand as a ‘fag pimp’ while appearing on his American TV chat show.
