India: Man charged under anti-gay law after wife discovered affair with spy camera
A man has been charged with a homosexual offenses under India’s colonial-era anti-gay law, after his wife secretly filmed him having gay sex with a spy camera.
According to the Times of India, a 32-year-old man – from Thiruvananthapuram, has been charged under Section 377 of the penal code.
The law, which was controversially re-enacted by a court last year, bans sex “against the order of nature”.
The man, who works for a tech company in Mysore, was in an arranged marriage to 31-year-old dentist, Lisa (name changed).
According to the newspaper, Lisa reportedly grew suspicious of her husband because he refused to have sex with her, and would regularly bring male friends home.
She installed hidden cameras in their house, across the hall, bedrooms and kitchen – to record his encounters when she was out – and obtained footage of him having sex with men.
According to the newspaper, she took the footage to the police to pursue the charges against her husband.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sandeep Patil, said: “We arrested the techie soon after his wife tendered a complaint, with proof.
“The techie’s parents have been booked for cheating the victim, but these allegations have to be fully proved before we can arrest them.”
