Here’s a picture of all of the openly gay CEOs in top US companies
Here is a picture of all the openly gay CEOs from across the thousand biggest companies in the US.
Apple CEO Tim Cook came out publicly this week, writing: “I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.”
However, research earlier this year showed that across the top 1000 companies in the US, not a single other chief executive has come out.
Mr Cook continued: “For years, I’ve been open with many people about my sexual orientation. Plenty of colleagues at Apple know I’m gay, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference in the way they treat me.
“Of course, I’ve had the good fortune to work at a company that loves creativity and innovation and knows it can only flourish when you embrace people’s differences. Not everyone is so lucky.”
Despite the lack of openly gay CEOs in the US, Christopher Bailey – who is out – was appointed as Burberry CEO in the UK last year.
Former BP boss Lord Browne is also openly gay – but stepped down from the role after allegations made by his ex-boyfriend were publicised.
PinkNews publisher Benjamin Cohen spoke to Nick Ferrari on LBC earlier today in reaction to the Apple boss coming out.
