Duck Dynasty star: I promise not to break into women’s toilets and watch them pee
Anti-gay Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has promised to not spy on women in bathrooms, in a bizarre speech to a homophobic rally.
The reality star was speaking to the ‘I Stand Sunday’ rally organised by hate groups in Houston, intended to create outrage about the city’s equal rights ordinance.
Pastors in the city had previously claimed, while mobilising people to sign a petition against the anti-discrimination law, that it would allow “men dressed as women” to legally assault women in bathrooms.
Robertson, who is famous for his homophobic outbursts, said at the rally: “For all you ladies in Texas, trust me when I tell you this: when you’re seated in your restroom, putting on your Maybelline, when I need to take a leak, I’m not going there.”
Despite attracting a range of Republicans, the event is backed by a plethora of far-right groups, including the Family Research Council (listed as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Centre), the National Organisation for Marriage (listed as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Centre), and American Family Association (listed as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Centre).
Despite the family claiming it had “moved on” from the incident, earlier this year Robertson gave an Easter Sermon claiming that the “sexually immoral” would go to hell.
In September, he claimed that sexually transmitted infections are God’s punishment for gays.
