US: Dallas voters approve nondiscrimination protections for LGBT employees
Dallas residents have voted overwhelmingly to include nondiscrimination protections for “sexual orientation” and “gender identity and expression” in the City Charter.
Lone Star Q reports the 77 per cent of voters outweighed the positive verdict, against the 23 per cent who were opposed.
Before the change, the charter only included race, sex, and political or religious opinions or affiliations.
Trans Pride President Nell Gaither said: “We thought we should suggest adding nondiscrimination language to the document.”
The nondiscrimination charter amendment, known as Proposition No. 4, also added color, age, marital status, genetic characteristics, national original, disability, and military or veteran status.
