Former NFL star: Maybe Michael Sam chose to be gay, God doesn’t make mistakes
Former NFL player Deion Sanders has said it’s possible Michael Sam chose to be gay – because God “doesn’t make mistakes”.
Sam – who was the first out football player to join the NFL – was cut by the St Louis Rams in September, and again by the Dallas Cowboys last month.
Former Cowboys player Deion Sanders told Larry King that he had “reached out” to Sam while he was at the club.
He said: “I reached out to Michael Sam because I have a cousin who is gay. He was gay ever since we were kids.
“I’m not saying I condone it, but I don’t condemn it. I don’t love what he do, but I love him as a man.
“I just wanted him to understand the burden and the weight that he’s carrying.”
When asked whether he believed homosexuality was a choice, Mr Sanders replied: “It could be.”
He continued: “We would get into, ‘Well, God did this,’ and ‘God did that.’ The God I know don’t make mistakes.
