1. Section 28 backer Brian Souter claimed he isn’t homophobic
The Stagecoach boss – who funded a campaign to keep a ban on the promotion of homosexuality – incredibly thinks he’s not a homophobe.
He said: “[I support] the traditional marriage-based family, and I’m afraid that stance gets interpreted as being homophobic.”
2. Terry Wogan claimed that Conchita Wurst has made Eurovision a ‘freak show’
The former commentator said: “That the Bearded Lady who won this year, reducing Graham [Norton] to tears, might have had a slightly different effect on me.
“I’ve always seen the Eurovision as a sometimes foolish farce, but not as a freak show.”
3. David Blunkett insisted the equal marriage bill was a ‘dog’s dinner’
The former Foreign Secretary defended his attack on the legislation last year, telling PinkNews: “They were all over the place but they sorted it out. It was a dog’s dinner because of the relationship with the Church of England.
“I voted for the legislation in the end because I thought that they made sense of it.”
4. Rose McGowan claimed gays fought for the right to wear speedos and take drugs
Speaking on a podcast, the ex-Charmed star said in part: “Gay men are as misogynistic as straight men, if not more so.
“I see now people who have basically fought for the right to stand on top of a float wearing an orange speedo and take molly [MDMA].”
5. Latvia’s foreign minister came out as gay
Minister Edgars Rinkevics “proudly announced” his orientation on Twitter, adding: “Good luck all of you”.
He also said he would “fight for” the recognition of all partnerships by the Latvian government.
6. A giant pink condom was put on an obelisk in Australia
The 157-year-old heritage-listed Hyde Park Obelisk was wrapped up as part of an HIV campaign.
The scheme was dreamed up by the AIDS Council of New South Wales (ACON) – who are claiming it is ‘Australia’s largest condom’.
7. The Sun put naked men on page 3 for the first time
The tabloid newspaper dispensed with the much-critiqued ‘Page 3 girl’ on Friday, to feature West Ham football club in the buff to promote testicular cancer checks.
However, the ‘No More Page 3’ were unimpressed, tweeting: “While it’s lovely @TheSunNewspaper is trying equality, we still think neither objectification nor cancer are sexy!”
