Gay footballer Robbie Rogers gets ‘multi-year’ contract with LA Galaxy
Gay football player Robbie Rogers has signed a new contract extension with LA Galaxy, which will see him stay with the team for several years.
The former Leeds United midfielder came out last spring, opting to retire from the sport.
However, he later cancelled his retirement – making a comeback in May 2013 to play for LA Galaxy, making 30 appearances and 22 starts on the team.
This week, the team confirmed that Rogers had signed “a multi-year contract extension”.
The 27-year-old said: “Thrilled to have re-signed with LA Galaxy. Thank you for your support, patience, and belief in my abilities. We’re not done yet.”
LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena added: “We are excited that Robbie will remain a part of our organization going forward.
“He has proven to be a dynamic player in our League and an integral part of our success this year.
“We look forward to his continued contributions in the years to come.”
The player will be very busy, however, as he has also signed on as a producer for a TV comedy series based on his playing career.
ABC announced last month that it had bought ‘Men in Shorts’ – a half-hour comedy series based on the life of the player.
It will deal with his battle for acceptance, both on and off the pitch, and his interactions with his teammates.
