US: Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says gay marriage supporters want to ‘redefine everything’
Dr Benjamin Carson, a neurosurgeon who compared gay people to paedophiles, has said same-sex marriage supporters should not try to “redefine everything for anybody else.”
In a recent interview by TV chat show host Larry King, Carson was asked about his stance on same-sex marriage.
King asked: “Why isn’t same-sex marriage a civil rights issue?”
“For me, it’s not a big issue,” he replied.
“You know, I think people can do whatever they want to do. It’s just that they don’t get to redefine everything for anybody else.
“So I’m very much a libertarian in the sense of believing ‘‘live and let live’’, but that goes in both directions and some people don’t recognize that.”
He said: “My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association), be they people who believe in bestiality–it doesn’t matter what they are–they don’t get to change the definition.”
Mr Carson became popular in conservative political circles after he spoke out against Obamacare at the National Prayer Breakfast, a high-profile event attended by President Obama.
