WATCH: Conchita Wurst’s new video ‘Heroes’
Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst has released the video for her new single ‘Heroes’, the first she has released since winning Eurovision this year.
The video, which stars Wurst wearing a veil and a wedding gown, a dress seemingly inspired by Jesus and cradling a child, also features a sinister-looking character who also bears a slight resemblance to Russian President Vladimir Putin. among a gang of other bad guys.
One Russian MP said Wurst’s Eurovision victory signified “the end of Europe,” and following her victory, Russia developed plans to revive a Soviet era Eurovision rival as a ‘family friendly’ alternative, but the idea was quietly dropped this summer.
The Austrian singer – who took home the crown at Eurovision in May despite a homophobic backlash across Europe – has recently completed a string of high-profile engagements, performing a set in early October at the European Parliament in Brussels, as part of a non-discrimination event.
She is also now signed to Sony Music Austria, and is currently working on a full-length album.
This weekend, the singer released her first track since Rise Like a Phoenix – unsurprisingly another power ballad, titled Heroes.
It comes after former Eurovision commentator Terry Wogan sparked controversy by claiming that Wurst had turned Eurovision from a “farce” to a “freak show”.
