Will & Grace star Sean Hayes marries same-sex partner
Sean Hayes, who starred in long-running gay sitcom Will & Grace, has married his same-sex partner.
The 44-year-old Will & Grace star revealed his engagement to Scott Icenogle, a music producer, late last month – adding that he had been engaged for several years in secret.
However, he surprised fans again this week by revealing on his Facebook page that the pair had now married.
He wrote: “Here’s a #TBT photo of Scotty and me getting married last week. Took us 8 years but we did it! — with Scott Icenogle.”
Despite starring as outgoing gay character Jack McFarland in the sitcom, Hayes has always been guarded about his own private life, only confirming he is gay in 2010.
He said at the time: “I never have had a problem saying who I am. I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never.
“Nobody owes anything to anybody. You are your authentic self to whom and when you choose to be. And if you don’t know somebody, then why would you explain to them how you live your life?”
It was announced last month that props and memorabilia from the long-running show will be included in an LGBT history collection at the Smithsonian museum.
The show’s co-creator David Kohan said: “The fact that it’s in the American history [museum], maybe we were a part of something that was bigger than we ever imagined.
“These particular guests that were invited into people’s living rooms happened to be your gay friends.
“I don’t think people really had the opportunity to have that before, and it served to, I think, make people recognize that your close friends were gay.”
