US: Minnesota man jailed for 6 months after shooting gays with BB gun
A Christian man in Minnesota has been jailed for six months, after he opened fire on a gay couple with a high-powered BB gun.
44-year-old Wayne Odegard – an evangelical Christian – was convicted this week after pleading guilty to shooting customers outside a Minneapolis gay bar.
On September 25 this year, took his gas-powered BB Gun and opened fire at men standing outside the Saloon bar, screaming that they were “f**king faggots”.
Security guard Tyler Erickson eventually intervened to stop him – but not before Odegard had shot at a gay couple, hitting them one of them in the leg.
Mr Erickson told Fox: “Usually our issues are actually on the street, nothing to this extent.
“He made a disrespectful comment towards the homosexual community, towards a couple that was holding hands and he obviously didn’t appreciate that.
“I ran after him and then it ended up he shot a different gay couple in the leg, with that gun and it went through his jeans and drew blood.
“He told me multiple times that I’m going to go to hell and he’s going to bring me with him.
“He recited a biblical passage — I think it’s a deuteronomy passage.”
“One of them is from Brooklyn and the other from Philadelphia, and they both joked that they came to progressive Minneapolis and got shot for being gay.”
Convicting him today, a judge sentenced him to just 6 months before bars – with an probation period as 5 years, to reflect the nature of the hate crime.
He will also have to undergo psychiatric evaluations, and attend anger management classes when he is released on bail.
