Chris Bryant appointed as shadow arts minister in Labour reshuffle
Labour MP Chris Bryant has been named as the new shadow minister for the arts in Ed Miliband’s shadow cabinet reshuffle.
Mr Bryant, the MP for the Rhondda, was appointed after Labour Leader Ed Miliband was forced to complete a mini-reshuffle after Emily Thornberry stepped down as shadow attorney general during a controversy over a tweet.
Ms Thornberry faced a storm of controversy when she tweeted a picture of a house draped in St George flags with a white van parked outside and captioned it “Image from Rochester”.
The openly gay MP, Mr Bryant, swapped roles with Helen Goodman, who took over the welfare reform role.
He has campaigned passionately on many LGBT issues, including the UK’s failure to send a gay representative to the Sochi Winter Olympics and supporting a boycott of Russian vodkas sold in UK gay bars.
