A man accused of killing a chef for P&O Ferries during a sex game said his body should be buried or burned, a court has heard.

Head chef Alun Williams, 47, died from a heart attack brought on by overheating after being wrapped up in plastic sheeting and clingfilm in August 2013.

The Daily Mirror reports that defendant Richard Bowler told a police officer how he and his carer and co-accused David Connor questioned whether they should discard the body.

The jury heard Mr Bowler told a PC: “Dave and I got scared and he said maybe bury him or set fire to him.

“And I said: ‘Don’t be stupid’ and I said we have got to call the police and the ambulance.”

Earlier this week, Canterbury Crown Court heard Mr Williams, who lived with his girlfriend, had an interest in bondage and mummification and would meet men online for sex.

Police found drugs including ketamine, cocaine, methamphetamine and amyl nitrate, otherwise known as poppers, in Mr Williams’s rucksack.

They also found a gas mask and ties in his bag. Sex toys, masking tape, duct tape, black plastic sheeting and clingfilm were also found in the flat, the jury heard.

Richard Bowler, 35, and David Connor, 23, both of Canterbury have denied manslaughter charges.

The trial continues.
