LGBT-inclusive shows ‘Transparent’ and ‘Normal Heart’ among Writers Guild nominees
Several LGBT-inclusive shows have been announced as nominees in the Writers Guild competition.
Among nominees were ‘Orange is the new Black’, ‘Transparent’, and ‘Normal Heart’.
‘Orange is the new Black’, the Netflix prison comedy was nominated for the best comedy series. It stars trans actress and activist Laverne Cox and out actress Lea DeLaria.
A single episode of the series was also nominated for an individual honour.
Amazon series ‘Transparent’ was nominated for best comedy series, best new series, and best single episode of a comedy.
Amazon has renewed the comedy-drama series for a second season.
The series, which launched on Amazon last month, features Jeffrey Tambor as trans woman Maura Pfefferman, and deals with her transition as she comes out to her grown-up children.
Larry Kramer, who adapted his play ‘The Normal Heart’, about the 80s AIDS epidemic, for the screen was nominated in the long form adaptation category.
The coveted Writers Guild competition honours TV, radio, and new media.
