Listen: Sam Smith unveils stunning ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ cover
Out singer Sam Smith has unveiled a new cover of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ – and is definitely making the Yuletide gay.
Earlier this week, the singer was nominated for a total of six Grammy awards, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
He unveiled the track yesterday, saying: “HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS xx Hope you enjoy!!”
The singer came out in May this year, when he revealed that his album In the Lonely Hour was about a man he fell in love with.
Smith said in September: “I’m not trying to be a spokesperson. It sounds awful of me, but I’m really just trying to live my life and write music about it.
“That’s what I do. I’m not trying to heal the world.”
Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres this week, he contradicted his own previous claim – insisting that he does want to be a spokesperson for everyone.
He said: “I’m a singer and a song writer. I get upset sometimes because I don’t talk about it too much.
“People say, he doesn’t want to be a spokesperson for the gay community.
“I do, of course I do, but I want to be a spokesperson for everyone.
“Ya know straight people, gay people, bisexual. I don’t want it to be limited.”
The ‘Leave Your Lover’ singer is no stranger to controversial comments – previously claiming that Grindr is “ruining” romance, and advising people not to make an “issue” of their sexuality if they want to be accepted.
