Prince Harry’s big secret and 6 other stories you might have missed this week
PinkNews brings you a roundup of news from the past seven days.
Here are some of the most widely read, and notable news stories from the past week which you may have missed.
1. Equalities minister Nicky Morgan could lose her seat
A Higher Education Policy Institute report claimed that the Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities could be under threat in her Loughborough constituency.
Ms Morgan, who has a majority of just 3744 over Labour in 2010, was earmarked as one of the 12 coalition MPs under threat from angry student voters.
2. The UK banned lots of types of porn
New regulations came into effect in the UK banning a number of types of porn – including spanking, caning, fisting, face-sitting and water-sports.
The change has been criticised for seemingly arbitrarily banning the depiction of certain types of sex – and is likely to force the porn industry abroad.
3. Prince Harry revealed a big secret and it was kind of disappointing
The fourth-in-line to the throne had pledged to reveal a secret for World AIDS Day – but speculation was quite far off the mark.
He said: “My secret is, believe it or not, I get incredibly nervous before public speaking no matter how big the crowd or the audience.”
4. UKIP’s Deputy Chair called PinkNews ‘gullible’ for reporting that officials followed a fake Twitter account
Suzanne Evans accused PinkNews of “scraping the deepest depths of the barrel” to discredit the party.
PinkNews had reported that a number of UKIP officials were fooled into following a hoax Twitter account which espoused openly homophobic views.
5. The Irish PM went for a drink in a gay bar
Ireland’s Taioseach Enda Kenny – of the Fine Gael party – took time out from running the country on Tuesday to visit Pantibar – run by drag queen activist Panti Bliss.
It is thought to be the first time that an Irish head of government has ever (publicly) visited a gay bar, just 21 years after Ireland decriminalised homosexuality.
6. Chris Bryant was appointed as shadow minister for the arts
Gay Labour MP Chris Bryant was moved sideways in Ed Miliband’s shadow cabinet, during a mini-reshuffle.
He has campaigned passionately on many LGBT issues, including the UK’s failure to send a gay representative to the Sochi Winter Olympics.
7. Naked security guards went ‘undercover’ to stop gay sex in saunas
Security staff at Parkbad Fitness Center in Linz, Austria, are trying and stop men using the gym as a cruising hotspot.
As part of their undercover role, the guards had to strip completely naked – giving up their uniform to ‘blend in’ with the Austrian clientèle.
