Trans man parliamentary candidate calls for more diversity in Westminster
The only transgender man currently standing for parliament has said Westminster needs to be more diverse.
Charlie Kiss, Green Party candidate for Islington South and Finsbury, told London Live: “I just feel that in the Houses of Parliament at the moment it’s not very representative of the population. It’s got to change.
“I would love not to be the only male transgender candidate standing.”
Along with Stella Gardiner, Mr Kiss is one of two transgender people standing for election for the Green Party. Emily Brothers, who is standing for the Labour Party in Sutton and Cheam, came out on PinkNews last week.
Mr Kiss is standing in the constituency currently held by Labour’s Emily Thornberry. The Green’s recieved only 710 votes at the last election but Mr Kiss is confident the party will do better this time.
“We’re on a real surge at the moment. Our membership has more than doubled in the last year – the latest poll last night put us just two points ahead of the Lib Dems.”
