Man glassed in the face outside Edinburgh gay bar
Police are searching for four suspects in a serious assault which took place on New Year outside an Edinburgh gay bar.
The attack took place at 00:30 on 1 January as the victim approached the Regent Bar on Montrose Terrace in Edinburgh.
The 35-year-old, who was out with his wife, was struck in the face with a glass after being confronted by four men. The severe facial injuries will cause permanent disfigurement.
He was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and was later released.
The suspects left after the attack in the direction of London Road.
The main suspect, who was responsible for the attack, was described as a white man with a Mediterranean appearance, between 5’4″ and 5’8″, and in his early 30s. He has a slight build, brown eyes and short brown hair with a side parting.
The other three suspects are described as being average height and between their mid 20s and early 30s.
Detective Constable Graham McIlwraith said: “This was a deplorable and completely unprovoked attack on a innocent man, who was out for New Year with his wife and friends.
“As a result of this attack, the victim has been badly shaken and left with permanent scarring to his face.
“We are looking to trace these men as a matter of urgency. We are also eager to speak anyone who may have witnessed the attack in the Regent Bar or who may have seen the suspects walking in the direction of London Road in the immediate aftermath.
“This establishment was extremely busy at the time of the assault. Therefore we are asking any members of the public who may have taken pictures of the attack to contact us and submit their photographs to officers.
