Pride and The Imitation Game to go head-to-head at BAFTAs
Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game and Thatcher-era drama Pride have both picked up several nomination for BAFTA awards.
Both of the films – the two big gay-themed blockbuster movies released in 2014 – are nominated in a number of categories. The Imitation Game leads with nine.
The codebreaking drama is up for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Production Design, Costume Design and Sound.
Benedict Cumberbatch is nominated for Leading Actor for his role as the gay codebreaker Alan Turing, while Keira Knightley is nominated for Supporting Actress.
Meanwhile, Pride is nominated for three BAFTAs – Outstanding British Film, Supporting Actress (Imelda Staunton) and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer.
The two films will go head-to-head in the Outstanding British Film category, against ’71, Paddington, The Theory of Everything and Under The Skin.
Actor Stephen Fry – who recently announced his engagement to stand-up comedian Elliott Spencer – is set to host the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on 8 February.
The US DVD release of Pride provoked controversy last week – as all mention of sexuality was removed from the cover.
