1. UKIP’s David Coburn claimed Labour and the Lib Dems want to make sex illegal

UKIP’s most senior openly gay politician, David Coburn, claimed that “equality Nazis” in the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties want to ban sex.

Mr Coburn said: “They’ll tell you eat your five a day, no smoking, no drinking, no sex, no nothing.

“They’re getting round to [banning sex]. What I call the equality Nazis, people who want everyone to fit into their stereotypes.”

2. Ellen Page was pissed at the Queen for awarding an MBE to a homophobic politician

Actress Ellen Page – who came out last year – swore at the Queen on Twitter after the monarch awarded an MBE to Northern Irish Councillor Maurice Mills, who blamed the spread of AIDS in Africa on gay people engaging in the “filthy practice of sodomy”.

Mr Mills later rounded on the actress, claiming she “hasn’t a clue” for criticising him.

3. Stephen Fry revealed his engagement to comedian Elliott Spencer

QI host Stephen Fry confirmed rumours that he was planning to tie the knot with fellow comedian, Elliott Spencer.

Fry confirmed: “Oh. It looks as though a certain cat is out of a certain bag. I’m very very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!”

4. The US DVD cover for ‘Pride’ removed all references to homosexuality

The US cover for the British film alters the synopsis to refer to “a group of London-based activists ” instead of “a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists”.

Pride director Matthew Warchus admitted: “Changing the cover is kind of clumsy and a bit foolish… but this is a film that is loved by people of all political persuasions and sexual orientations.”

5. The former figurehead of the anti-gay marriage movement said ‘only God’ can stop it now

Maggie Gallagher, the former head of the National Organisation for Marriage, claimed the only thing that could halt same-sex marriage is God.

She said: “Either God is in charge, or the future hasn’t yet happened and is freely determined. Or God leaves us free.”

6. Drag queen Panti Bliss gave another incredible speech about homophobia

Irish drag artist Panti Bliss – who captivated millions with her speech about oppression a year ago – made a return to the stage for a TedX Dublin talk.

She said: “I am 45 years old, and I have never once unselfconsciously held hands with a lover in public.

“Every day, I am jealous of straight people, because this tiny intimate expression of affection has never once been mine.”

7. Jim Davidson dubbed UKIP ‘the Jim Davidson of politics’

Comedian Jim Davidson, often accused of being racist, sexist and homophobic, appeared to find a kindred spirit in UKIP.

The controversial comic, who thinks gay entertainers are more likely to be child abusers, said: “I feel for UKIP, in a way. They’re the Jim Davidson of the political world.

“They’re being hit with a stick for something that they haven’t done. They say that they are racist and they are this and that.”
