US: Couple in Florida gay marriage lawsuit to attend State of the Union address
A gay couple who were the first to marry in the US state of Florida when the law changed, will attend President Obama’s State of the Union address this evening.
The couple, Jeff and Todd Delmay of Hollywood, were invited by US Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz to attend the address in Washington DC, as her guests.
According to Todd Delmay, the congresswoman rang the couple herself to tell them they were invited to the event.
He told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that he hopes “every same-sex family feels like we have them there with us in our heart.”
The couple were among six who sued the county of Miami-Dade, for the right to marry, and the Delmays were one of the first to marry in that county, where same-sex marriage was available one day before other Florida states.
