US: Homophobic racist attack in West Hollywood
A gay man was subjected to a racist and homophobic attack on Martin Luther King Day.
Don Brooks, a bartender from the gay-friendly area of West Hollywood, was walking home in the early morning when a group of men began yelling slurs at him out of car. He told them to go home, and then three men jumped out the car and attacked him.
He was pushed to the ground by a man he described as tall and “beefy”. He hit his head on the pavement which lead to him requiring staples for a head wound.
Mr Brooks told KTLA: “I wasn’t expecting to get gay-bashed or have a hate crime committed against me on Martin Luther King Day in West Hollywood.”
Police are looking for four men, described as Armenian and in their mid-to-late 20s. It is the first hate crime to be reported in West Hollywood this year.
