Gay comic Kate McKinnon cast in Ghostbusters reboot
Openly gay comic Kate McKinnon has been cast in the new ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot.
The Saturday Night Live cast member was announced as part of the line-up for the long-discussed third Ghostbusters films.
The follow-up to the 1984 cult classic and its 1989 sequel had originally been touted to feature original cast members including Bill Murray – but plans changed after the death of Harold Ramis in 2014.
McKinnon – who was previously a cast member for Rosie O’Donnell series The Big Gay Sketch Show – will appear alongside
Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones in the film.
Director Paul Feig confirmed the four castings today, simply posting a picture of the four actresses to his Twitter – before adding: “In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date!”

Feig said last year: “Ghostbusters is such a great thing and everybody knows it.
“It’s a shame to just let this thing sit there. My favourite thing to do is work with funny women. I was like, what if it was an all female cast? That would be really fun.”
