Selfridges adopts gender-neutral labels
High-end department store Selfridges, has announced that it will do away with men’s and women’s sections, and will stock only gender-neutral clothing.
The iconic store, on London’s Oxford Street, as well as its Manchester branch, announced that instead of separate sections, it will just stock three floors of unisex clothing.
Known as a trailblazer for fashion in Britain, Selfridges & co will also apply the new policy to mannequins, beauty products and accessories in the shake-up from 12 March.
“We want to take our customers on a journey where they can shop and dress without limitations or stereotypes,” a Selfridges spokesman told The Times.
“A space where clothing is no longer imbued with directive gender values, enabling fashion to exist as a purer expression of ‘self.”’
Brands named which are on board for the revamp include KTZ, Trapstar and Hood By Air.
