Watch: Gay-inclusive advert to air during Super Bowl
A gay-inclusive jewellery advert is set to air during the Super Bowl.
The regional ad, from Australia-based jeweller Michael Hill, will air in Canada and Chicago during the much-hyped game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.
Advertising during the Super Bowl is notoriously expensive, with Michael Hill reported to have sunk a large sum into producing the ads and buying the slots.
The campaign – titled ‘We’re for Love’ – features a number of couples, both gay and straight.
Longer versions of the ad have also been released, in which the narrator says: “Young love, old love, motherly love, straight love, gay love, forbidden love, brotherly love. It seals love, nurtures, creates and declares love for all the world to see.
“We don’t care what kind of love you’re into – we just want to make sure you get your fair share.”
Marketing officer Joe Talcott told Stuff NZ: “The NFL Super Bowl XLIX is a huge event attracting a massive audience both in the USA, Canada and across the globe.
“Television advertising has always been a key part of the Michael Hill business strategy.
“Super Bowl offers us a unique opportunity to showcase our brand in front of millions of people. We’ve been working on this campaign for over a year now and have invested a substantial amount in the development of the platform – so to be able to launch it in key markets during the Super Bowl is very exciting.”
Last year, Coca-Cola aired an ad featuring a gay family during the Super Bowl.
