Orange is the New Black star Lea DeLaria announces engagement
Orange is the New Black star Lea DeLaria has announced her engagement to partner Chelsea Fairless.
The star, who plays fan favourite Big Boo on the Netflix prison series, revealed the news in a post on Facebook, alongside a bizarre photoshopped engagement picture.
She wrote: “Despite their concerns about the patriarchal confines of marriage, actor / singer Lea DeLaria & editrix Chelsea Fairless of Brooklyn, New York are pleased to announce their engagement.
“No date has been set for the impending nuptials but it’s safe to say that it will be the event of the season, or a total shit show.”
The actress is active within the LGBT community, previously serving as Grand Marshal for Manchester Pride parade.
In November, a clip emerged of her shouting down a homophobic preacher on the New York subway.
She told the man, as he shouted about Sodom and Gomorrah: “You have no right! Go to another train. Get off this train. Other people believe other things and have every right to believe other things on this planet and in this world.
“As long as you keep talking, I’ll keep talking.
“We do not have to be force-fed this man’s religious beliefs. Jesus never said for you to do this – ever.”
