Cher attacks Arkansas governor for allowing law permitting anti-gay discrimination
Cher has hit out at the Governor of Arkansas, for allowing an anti-gay bill to pass into law.
The singer spoke out after governor Asa Hutchinson said he will not veto a bill which blocks anti-discrimination laws from protecting LGBT people.
The state’s House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favour of SB202, which seeks to void ordinances adopted in individual cities and counties that protect workers from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
Mr Hutchinson, who has the power to veto the legislation, confirmed last week: “I am allowing the bill to become law.”
Cher tweeted her anger at the move today.

The singer has repeatedly spoken about her frustration with Republicans recently, writing last week: “BTW… ALL GOP CANDIDATES SUCK”

Cher claimed previously that she was asked to perform at the Winter Olympics in Sochi – but turned the gig down because of the country’s anti-gay laws.
She said: “I can’t name names but my friend called who is a big oligarch over there, and asked me if I’d like to be an ambassador for the Olympics and open the show. I immediately said no.
“I want to know why all of this gay hate just exploded over there. He said the Russian people don’t feel the way the government does.”
