Anti-gay Alabama justice thinks bisexuals need four-person marriages
Alabama’s Chief Justice Roy Moore has claimed that if two bisexuals or trans people wanted a marriage, it would have to involve four people.
Despite a court ruling abolishing Alabama’s ban on same-sex marriage, Chief Justice Roy Moore urgedĀ probate judges to disobey – and refuse to issue marriage licences to gay and lesbian couples under threat of legal action.
Mr Moore – who has become a paragon of the anti-gay movement following his ineffective stand against marriage – appeared to be confused about transgender people, bisexuality and basic mathematics.
He said: “Youāre taking any definition of a family away.
“When two bisexuals or two transgendered marry, how large is that family?
“Can they marry two persons, one of the same sex and one of the opposite sex? Then, you’ve got a family of four or how many?”
His bizarre implication that a marriage between twoĀ trans people would be between “four” peopleĀ seems to imply that trans people literally divide into two separate organismsĀ when they transition.
Despite Mr Moore’s rantings, most of Alabama has now disregarded his advice – with the majority of counties performing same-sex weddings.
