Russian police raided the lesbian nightclub Infinity, run by the woman who kissed her girlfriend in a viral photo.

The club was raided yesterday, reportedly for allowing under-age people to enter, and allowing the sale of illegal drugs. The club is owned by Kseniya Infinity who was one of two women who took a selfie kissing on a plane with Senator Vitaly Milonov in background.

Mr Milonov is a notoriously homophobic politician who was one of the sponsors of the ā€œgay propagandaā€ bill. He was pictured behind the kissing activists, and then tried to hide behind his tablet.

After the picture went viral, Senator Milanov said: ā€œThis shows that these people are not of a normal sexual orientation, but that their sexual deviance shows in all aspects of their lives. I didnā€™t understand what they are doing but they have a nice sense of humour.

ā€œI also have a good sense of humour. I will perhaps continue this joke by closing their gay club in St. Petersburg, or ban them from having meetings in public places, thatā€™s also a funny step.ā€ He also called them ā€œmentally illā€.

Anti-gay group Moscow Isnā€™t Sodom and Petersburg Isnā€™t Gomorrah had called on the public to make complaints about the club in the wake of the photo. They said: ā€œIt was precisely this nightclubā€™s staff who staged a provocation a few days ago. Before the eyes of everyone on board a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg, they demonstrated their perverse inclinations, causing a scandal on the Internet.ā€

In 2013, Milanov said that gay people were not ā€œnormalā€ and compared being gay to living ā€œwith a dog, with a horse, with a sheep, whatever.ā€.

In October, he said Apple CEO Tim Cook should be banned from Russia after he spoke publicly about being gay for the first time.
