Evan Davis versus Natalie Bennett for Top Gear host?
Evan Davis and Natalie Bennett have been touted as potential replacements for Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.
At the PinkNews Debate last night, host Evan Davis asked a panel of politicians who they felt should be the next presenter of Top Gear if Jeremy Clarkson is sacked following his fracas with a producer.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper immediately replied: “You. Evan, I think you’d really enjoy it!” to a laugh from Davis, a keen motorcyclist.
Lib Dem Chief Whip, Don Foster said: “I cease being a member of Parliament in nine days time, and I love driving, so me!”, to cheers from the audience.
Turning to Green Party leader Natalie Bennett, Evan Davis joked: “Natalie, I assume you don’t want there to be a programme called Top Gear anymore?”
Bennett replied: “There has actually been a Twitter campaign saying that if I am not elected as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras. I should be hosting Top Gear.
“I would certainly want to see a woman hosting it.”
UKIP’s Peter Whittle picked George Clooney – while the Tory Leader of the House of Lords, Baroness Stowell, neglected to give an answer, saying: “I used to work at the BBC… I’m just glad I’m not having to deal with the whole Jeremy Clarkson situation.”
