Michael Sam is ‘very confident’ that he will still play professionally
The first out gay player to be drafted by the NFL, Michael Sam, has said he is “very confident” that he will be drafted to a professional team.
Sam was amontg 100 participants in the NFL’s veteran combine, which allows those who have not remained on a squad to show off their skills.
The 25-year-old who has had brief spells with the St Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys – made history as the first openly gay NFL player in May 2013, though he is yet to play an on-season game.
He got engaged to partner Vito Cammisano in January, during a trip to Italy.
When asked about his spot on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, Sam simply said “next question”, attempting to shift the focus back onto football.
“I am very confident that I will be playing football this year… somewhere,” he then said.
Sam said in a recent interview that he has received criticism – because his fiancé is white.
