Bill Maher quips about ‘deeply stupid’ Dolce and Gabbana boycott
TV host Bill Maher has mocked “Dame” Elton John’s boycott of fashion designers Dolce and Gabbana, after the pair made derogatory comments about ‘non-traditional families’.
This week Maher mocked rights campaigners for focussing on the pair above ISIS, and right-wing Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
He said: “For folks who take such pride in their love of diversity, liberals increasingly seem to tolerate none in their own ranks.
“I don’t necessarily agree with Dolce and Gabbana, but what is the point of attacking people who are 95 percent on your side?
“Give them a break, they’re from Sicily!”
Referring to ISIS and Justice Scalia, he said: “It’s easier to get all fake-outraged over the ‘hateful, anti-gay speech’ of two men who bedazzle codpieces for a living.”
He added: “Dame Elton John was the angriest of all, tweeting ‘how dare you refer to my children as synthetic’. My hair yes, but not my children.
“Really, you can’t sell handbags now if you only agree with Elton John almost all the time?
“In Syria, ISIS is throwing gay people off building – maybe there are bigger battles to fight.
“How deeply stupid has the far left become when gay designers can’t get along with gay musicians?”
He also told Media Matters – a media watchdog that often covers LGBT issues – to “shut the f**k up”, and claimed that transgender people offended by The Vagina Monologues are “giant pussies”.
