The Indiana pizza takeaway that said it would not cater gay weddings has faced a backlash online.
Memories Pizza is the first business in the state to say that it would use the new ‘religious freedom’ law to refuse to serve same sex marriage.
Interviewed by ABC57, co-owner Crystal O’Connor said: “If a gay couple was to come in and they wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no.”
The stance she took has since caused a storm on social media, with many taking to business review website Yelp to poke fun at their bigotry.
Accompanied by penis pizza pictures and other memes, negative reviews flooded the website.
“Pizza served with a side order of BIGOT. And seriously, who caters pizza for a wedding?” wrote one user.
But not everyone was against the pizza joint, and following the news that they had shut their doors until further notice, Dana Loesch, host of online news channel The Blaze, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the O’Connors.
Speaking on her broadcast she said: “Nobody should ever have to suffer or suffer alone for their faith, for standing up for Christian principles,”
Supporters of the GoFundMe project have now donated almost $60,000 in 14 hours.
