A UKIP candidate has blamed a ā€˜hackerā€™ for posting offensive remarks on his Facebook page ā€“ that were written over a period of several years.

Anti-UKIP blog Hope Not Hate earlier this week posted screenshots of Alan Harris ā€“ who is the partyā€™s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate in Oxford West and Abingdon, allegedly making anti-gay comments on his Facebook.

The candidate appeared to say: ā€œwhy cant i say in my own bloody country black is still a colour and gay are still queersā€

He also allegedly posted about ā€œf**king Muslimsā€ refusing to serve him a ā€œbacon sandwichā€.

However, Mr Harris ā€“ who has since deleted both his Facebook page and candidate page entirely ā€“ denies all wrongdoing.

He told The Independent: ā€œIā€™m absolutely disgusted. My account has been hacked ā€“ again. You know what Facebook is like.

ā€œI wouldnā€™t say anything about gay people because I have a gay son. Iā€™ve got lots of Asian friends. I never said any of this.ā€

The comments were spread from a period ranging from October 2011 until February 2013 ā€“ so presumably Mr Harris was hacked a number of times, over and over.

A spokesman for UKIP previously said the allegations were being looked into.
